UNDERGRADUATE (MD)
The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a comprehensive undergraduate medical education designed to produce competent and compassionate healthcare professionals. The program spans five years and is structured into two main phases: the pre-clinical phase and the clinical phase. During the pre-clinical phase, which encompasses the first two years, students engage in foundational medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, and microbiology. This phase emphasizes problem-based learning, encouraging students to develop critical thinking and self-directed learning skills.
The subsequent three years constitute the clinical phase, where students gain hands-on experience through rotations in various medical specialties including Obsterics & Gynaecology during Year 3 & Year 5. This phase is conducted in affiliated teaching hospitals and healthcare centers, providing students with real-world clinical exposure and patient interaction. Throughout the program, USM integrates research components, ethics, and professional development to ensure graduates are well-rounded and prepared for the challenges of the medical profession.
